Another Community Embraces Megan’s Way Out: The City of Whitehall Takes Action
Another Meaningful Step Towards our Mission
This month, the City of Whitehall, a city in Franklin County, Ohio located 6 miles east of the state capital of Columbus, took one of those steps by unanimously passing an ordinance requiring new drive-thru facilities to include a bypass lane and emergency vehicle access, a change designed to help prevent future tragedies and save lives.
Whitehall now joins a growing number of Ohio communities that have recognized this common-sense safety improvement. Their ordinance requires future drive-thru developments to include bypass lanes that allow customers to exit if danger arises while also giving first responders faster access during medical emergencies, fires, crashes, or acts of violence.
Gratitude to Whitehall City Council
At Megan’s Rainbow of Hope, we are deeply grateful to the Whitehall City Council, city staff, and everyone who supported this ordinance. Their leadership sends an important message: public safety should always be part of the design process.
Momentum continues to build across Ohio.
Communities like Stow and Cuyahoga Falls have already adopted similar legislation, and statewide legislation known as Megan’s Way Out has been introduced to establish these safety standards across Ohio. Each city that joins this effort brings us one step closer to to our goal of preventing another tragedy.
