On Saturday, November 15, 2025, Nick and Kelly Keleman from Megan’s Rainbow of Hope were guest speakers at Aurora High School for an event held by Interact. The event was hosted by the Aurora High School Interact Club and the Rotary Club of Aurora. There were groups from seven high schools and three youth organizations. Approximately 200 students were in attendance.
Interact is a service club for young people ages 12-18, sponsored by a local Rotary club, that focuses on developing leadership skills and fostering international understanding through community and international service projects. The name “Interact” combines “international” and “action”. Members of Interact clubs complete at least two service projects a year: one for their community and one to promote international understanding.
Throughout the day, among other activities, the students broke out into different groups to discuss projects going on throughout previous years, participated in a speech contest and brainstormed on ways to assist with Megan’s Rainbow of Hope and another organization called Believe in Dreams. Katie Cheyfitz was the guest speaker from Believe in Dreams.
During their conversation, Kelly and Nick spoke about how their tragedy prompted their cause of action to make change in a positive way by creating Megan’s Rainbow of Hope and Megan’s Way Out. They also provided insight on how to engage other people into service projects, stay focused, stand firm in their cause and to never give up by overcoming doubt and criticism.
It was a great event that showcased many engaged students who are currently making a difference in their communities and will continue to do so in the future. It was a pleasure to speak directly with several students during the event. We want to thank: Melissa Foster from the Aurora Interact Club for inviting us to the event, everyone who put together the event, all the Rotary clubs supporting the event, all the faculty from all the schools that were in attendance and to all the students.
